Yes, 2016 is upon us and many people are enthusiastic about all the changes they are about to make their lives. But you need to remember one crucial fact; you need to change your thoughts in order to change your life.

Many people start setting new goals at the beginning of the year, yet very few are successful with achieving all those goals. There are many reasons for this, but one of the major reasons is the fact they they don’t change their thinking.

Firstly you need to know know what your reasons are for wanting to achieve the particular goal. If you want to quit smoking because you know it is irritating your wife and she keeps telling you to quit the habit, you are in for a hard time. That is external motivation and you are trying to please someone else. You will benefit someone else. You are about to make a sacrifice. When those cravings come, you are going to have to fight them. You really want to make yur wife happy….wow….and you know she’s going to be proud of you. 

But those cravings…….. and then comes the headaches…..and not too long and you start being short tempered. Everybody just needs to understand….you really want to win this thing; you want to achieve this goal. Or do you? No, you don’t really want to. You want to please someone else, which actually means – without realizing it – you think you have to.

How do you overcome this problem? Start by changing the way you think. Firstly you have to make up your mind that you realy want to quit smoking. To get to that decision, is a very personal thing. I cannot tell you why you would want to stop, neither can anybody else. you have to make up your own mind. Maybe you can do some investigation and find out what someone’s lungs look like after he/she passed away from smoking. If that’s a bit too harsh, you can start thinking about the health benefits and how much more energy you will have. another motivating factor can be financial. Think about the money you will save over a period of one year and determine what you can do with the money.

The main thing is, it must be your decision. It is about you really wanting to do it.

    Yes, a Chang sometimes develop an irritation to us and at the same time a great comfort to others.

      It is so true what you say, what often develops an irritation to some, brings great comfort to others.

    Excellent post – and very wise point about changing because you feel you have to!

    Earlier today I was listening to a radio program about New Year Resolutions and someone was on there saying that he wanted to do xyz but wondering how to work up any motivation. It was quite obvious that he hasn’t got his “WHY” sorted out.

      Thank you for visiting my site! Yes, it surely sounds as if this person didn’t really know “WHY” he wanted to do his xyz. It is so easy to say “I want to be a millionaire”. But why? Once you’ve got all that money, what are you going to do with it? Do you have a specific purpose in mind? I can hear someone saying now “give me that money and I’ll show you what to do with it”…..lol. Great! Then you know your “why”. But does it get you excited enough to take action? Is it really that important to you?
